(#5) Strasbourg
There are many words which should have accents of one sort or another in my writings but it almost impossible to get them on this mini iPad when using the Bluetooth keyboard. So Please take that into account when reading.
Our location was very close to the train station, in fact it was close to everything in Strasbourg so we walked everywhere. Our first meal was at an Alsatian style for which we reserved online for a spot outside due to various reviews. As we walked up the street we searched for the name and or the address number and were greeted by the proprietor on the street asking us, in Francais, if we were the Johansen's. The specialty menu was a chalk board placed on the table while its was explained to us, we also had hard copy menus for other items which we understood pretty well. They had Cremant so naturally we had to have a bottle. The proprietor said it was tres bien , he understood English but only replied in French. Pave' had a bit of trouble with her order as the specialty risotto was fini so she had salmon with the regular risotto and I had duck. To our delight and surprise he placed the wine cooler on the table next to us which was prime real estate for this restaurant and it remained there almost for the entire dinner. It was a beautiful evening with a bit of conversation with two older women who were friends from different locations and decided to meet in Strasbourg for the weekend. After dinner we walked around a bit to find a grocery store and buy some wine. Found one at the next corner with a nice selection. As I was looking at some of the white wines and had one in my hand Pave' came up asked me the price, 8 euro, and said I found one cold and only 3 euro. Well the wine wasn't 3 euro it was 13 euro making me feel somewhat dim-witted as I heartily handed over a 5 euro note. A very nice bottle or wine for sure. The next day was Saturday and we found a patisserie for our morning coffee. After that we walked into town and found the office for boat tours, finally got our tickets for a much later time because we wanted an open boat rather than an enclosed air conditioned one. We found a spot close to the dock and ordered some wine, 25 cl, and then since we still had time to spare we ordered another 25 cl but a different variety. I don't know why, maybe we are old looking and somewhat feeble, but our waiter warned us that it was VERY HOT out and the wine could be overpowering. We did make it on and off the boat without falling overboard. After dinner we walked to and area where we were told there would be a light show at 20:00 Hr. As we stood looking at the area the show was supposed to occur the crowd surged in one direction and as there was no light show happening we sauntered in the same direction. It was not a light show but a trapeze artist walking between two towers over the river. We got into a position where we caught the very last of the performance and captured a few shots before we went home. Sunday was a bit of a crap shoot finding morning coffee and as we just made the cut off time we ended up with all the remaining croissants and pain au choose colat for the regular price. Off we set for our last day of site seeing and found the Barrage Vauban where we had a great view of the Petite France section of Strasbourg. We then head towards the centre of town and due to my impeccable sense of direction and computer maps which were not helpful our step count for the day was 11,000+. The following morning I picked up a car and we hit the road for points in a southerly direction. Basel and then Geneva.

Barrage Vauban, a great French tactician, Vauban that is as barrage is something else
