(#5) Strasbourg

There are many words which should have accents of one sort or another in my writings  but it almost impossible to get them on this mini iPad when using the Bluetooth keyboard.  So Please take that into account when reading. Our location was very close to the train station, in fact it was close to everything in Strasbourg so we walked everywhere.  Our first meal was at an Alsatian style for which we reserved online for a spot outside due to various reviews.  As we walked up the street we searched for the name and or the address number and were greeted by the proprietor on the street asking us, in Francais, if we were the Johansen's.  The specialty menu was a chalk board placed on the table while its was explained to us, we also had hard copy menus for other items which we understood pretty well.  They had Cremant so naturally we had to have a bottle.  The proprietor said it was tres bien , he understood English but only replied in French.  Pave'...

(#4) Switzerland

It seems like all I have been writing about is the food we eat and the wine we drink. So I will attempt not to do so much in this post. Our location for Basel was actually in Germany and about a 20 minute tram ride from a shopping centre where there was also free parking, bonus.  The Euro is not used in Switzerland although they will take bills but give you Swiss francs back in change.  We used the credit card, a lot.  A little walk around the centre of town at which point we found that our data did not work in Switzerland.  I think we got a message , in German since we bought new sims cards in Germany, indicating if we wanted to use date it would be 0.50 Euro cents for 50 KB data.  Just agree on line, YA sure you can't connect tot the internet so how can you agree.  Luckily we had a town centre paper map and found a museum to visit for the afternoon. How is it that someone can define somethings with a few lines giving depth and perception while others...

(#3) Berlin

Image
I suppose I should mention that our virtual Superwalk for PD actually started about a week ago and we have been doing about 8,000 steps on average per day since landing in Europe. So on with Berlin. The next day we set our route for sightseeing but the heat was so intense that we got about half of our list done and found ourselves in rush hour trying to get back to the hotel.  First we saw Berlin from the Panorampunkt which is a building where you can get a 360 degree view even thought building is built like a triangle laid flat. Then we found the Memorial to Murdered Jews in Europe. It is still hard to comprehend the extent of what actually occurred during the period of the Nazi's and the locations their plans involved. There is a bit of a numbing effect as most of the exhibit was visual.  We took a well deserved break from the heat but unfortunately not the best of food.  Found the Brandenburg Gate after setting off in the wrong direction and by the time we got the...
