(#1) Down East

As we lull away our time in Halifax and surroundings before our departure to Europe, Frankfurt 1st stop, we have experienced a different weather system than on the west coast.  Our arrival had the look of a cold blustery day, grey low cloud with what looked like rolling fog.  Wrong, stifling humidity awaited us beyond the revolving airport terminal doors with the walk to the car rental location feeling like someone or thing was drizzling a fine mist inside your clothes.  Needless to say humidity is the major issue here regardless of what it looks like outside.

The wedding we attended had a day that started with isolated rain but in the area of the wedding and wait now, Humidity.  Fortunately the clouds moved way a leaving mostly clear skies with remaining Humidity.  The wedding was a lovely outside affair with the seating area pleasantly shaded overlooking an idyllic bay with sailboats dropping their sails and drifting into their home base.  However, when I stepped into some direct sunshine, which the bride and groom were bathed in for the ceremony, I felt like someone stuck a garden hose down the back of my shirt and turned it on full blast.  Let's just say that I now really appreciate air conditioning.


The next few days will be very slow and relaxing as we visit a few old friends out here and begin setting our minds to vacation mode.

The following blogs will be generic in location except for Narbonne and Beziers which deserve a combined blog if not separate ones. Ok, so what next, where to after watching other boats vy for position.  Somehow the pace of travel is quite relaxing and starting the travel part of the day sometime before noon does not impede our make it as you go plans.  I took one of the bikes we had onboard, a bit of a challenge with only one speed, one seat position, handle bars that feel twice as high as the seat and miniature wheels.  It wasn't long before I was well ahead of the boat which allowed for some decent pictures.  After being picked up we pulled into a depot to get some of the deficiencies corrected.  Well that was what we thought could occur,  Instead the consistent answer to any of the many questions was "I must be honest I cannot help you".  A relaxing glass of wine by the canal side before departing to parts unknown helped smooth the waters so to ...

(#7) On the road, part deux

Having Problems Loading Photos so until it autocorrects the blogs will be words only, shitdog Leaving our oasis we stopped into a church we passed along the way, got down on our knees, oh sorry the Mamas & Papas just popped in for a stay .  Anyways the church is the beginning of the pilgrimage to the Camino de Santiago (French Version).  Amazing church, basilica actually, about 1100 years old, and I can fall asleep anywhere.  The photos really do not provide the intense feeling you get from the surroudings.  We entered through a rear entrance, good thing, the front entry must have been  a half Km in length and that was just what we saw from the top of the steps looking down.   Then we found a waterfall, which we couldn't find on the way to Allegre,  that turned out was to be about 5 Km away before we gave up our attempt to find it.  Pave' did the walk to the view point using her walking sticks of the first time on this trip.  Travelli...
